Lisa Kudrow - American actress, comedian and producer. Born on July 30, 1963 in Encino, California, USA. Her father, Lee, was a physician and her mother, Nedra, was a travel agent. Lisa was raised in Tarzana and played varsity-level tennis in high school and college, and is a pool shark who has mastered some of the more difficult trick shots (so beware). She graduated from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychobiology. At first, she wanted to pursue a career in research, so she returned to Los Angeles to begin working with her father. However, Lisa got inspired to perform by one of her brother's friends, comedian Jon Lovitz, and so the tall (5' 8") blond-haired, green-eyed beauty entered show biz. Lisa auditioned for the improv theater group, The Groundlings, based in Los Angeles. Cynthia Szigeti, a well-known improv teacher, took Lisa under her wing. Lisa became a friend of Conan O'Brien. Graduating with honors in 1989, Lisa became a full-fledged member of The Groundlings.
After a range of small parts in television, she became known for her role as Ursula in Mad About You (1992), then achieved a major success as Phoebe Buffay (Ursula's "twin sister") in the acclaimed television series Friends (1994-2004). She gained worldwide recognition for her ten season run.
Lisa earned an Emmy nomination as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series; in 1998, she won that award for her role as Phoebe, the ditsy but lovable folk singer. Throughout her career she has received nine Emmy Award nominations, twelve Screen Actors Guild Award nominations and a Golden Globe Award nomination.
Was originally cast for the role of Roz Doyle on "Frasier" (1993) but producers and writers decided that they were changing the character too much to fit Lisa's personality. Both parties decided it would be better to recast the role.
She and Jennifer Aniston both auditioned for regular cast member spots on "Saturday Night Live" (1975) prior to their success on "Friends" (1994).
Away from television, Kudrow has also appeared in many films including Romy and Michele's High School Reunion (1997), The Opposite of Sex (1998), Analyze This (1999), Dr. Dolittle 2 (2001), Happy Endings (2005), P.S. I Love You (2007), Bandslam (2008), Hotel for Dogs (2009) and Easy A (2010).
She went on to produce, write and star in the short lived HBO series The Comeback, and is currently starring in Web Therapy which is in its second season on Showtime. She won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Class - Short-Format Live-Action Entertainment Program for the show in 2012. She is also one of the executive producers of the NBC reality program Who Do You Think You Are. She is nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Reality-Program for the series in 2012.
Kudrow currently stars as Fiona Wallice in an improvisational online web series called Web Therapy on Lstudio.com. The series has featured guest stars such as Jane Lynch, Molly Shannon, and Selma Blair, amongst others.
